Wes was recently inducted into the
Military Order of The Purple Heart,
Kurtis A. Adams
Kurtis A. Adams, 94, passed
away peacefully at his home in Aptos
in the presence of his wife, Maxine,
and his family.
Kurt was born in Illinois, one of
11 children. He worked on his family’s
dairy farm and was later employed
as a die caster in Woodstock, Wis. In
1941, while on vacation, he rode his
Harley Davidson out to California
and settled permanently in San Francisco.
During World War II he was
employed at Mare Island Naval Shipyard,
later transferring to Hunter’s
Point Naval Shipyard as a supervisor
in the submarine division.
On VJ Day, the end of the war, he
met Maxine on a blind date. She became
his wife on Oct. 12, 1946. For the
next 30 years, Kurt was employed by
the Yellow Cab Company, from which
he retired in 1963. He was also initiated
into the Masonic Lodge 120 of San
Francisco. In 1978, Kurt and Max-

Wes has been a licensed general
contractor in California since June of
1973, happily married with two chil-
ine relocated to Aptos. Kurt’s favorite
pleasure in life was golfi ng at Seascape
Golf Course, and other courses, for
25 years. He also enjoyed gardening
and driving for several auto dealers in
the area. He was a dedicated member
of the Cabrillo Host Lions Club and
received the President’s Appreciation
Award. He was a very active volunteer.
Kurt was survived by his wife of
61 years, Maxine of Aptos; sisters:
Carolyn Moffi tt, Shirley Stiegman
and Genevieve Cooper, all of Wisconsin;
extended family: Robert and Earline
Dal Porto, Carl and Pat Casey,
all of Brentwood, and Wanda Long
of Twain Harte. Also surviving Kurt
are many loving nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed by his family
and many dear friends. A memorial
will be held on July 26 at 11 a.m.
at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church,
9850 Monroe Ave. in Aptos. In lieu of
fl owers, contributions may be made to
a favorite charity.

Our Wes is survived by his loving wife,
Shirley, and two daughters, Victoria and
