Relay planning underway
The leadership baton has been passed,
and planning has begun for what has become
one of the most important annual
events in Brentwood, the Relay for Life.
“What a great job Fran Bowmen did
last year leading the American Cancer Society’s
Relay for Life 2008,” said 2009 Relay
Chairman Jeff Schults in a news release. “I
have said in the past and I say it every single
time I talk about Relay: what a tremendous
group of people we have dedicating themselves
to fi ght back against cancer. It takes
every one of us working together to pull this
event off year after year. What a blessing we
have to be part of this community”
Last year’s Relay raised $307,657 in
gross donations, Schults said, adding that
it’s all the more impressive given the economic
times. “For us to accomplish that
kind of fundraising effort speaks volumes
to our community’s commitment to relay
until there is a Cure.” He credits the success
of the event to the more than 50 members
of the planning committee, the 105 team
captains and the nearly 2,000 people who
participated.
Schults said that the dates for the 2009
event are hoped to be June 13 and 14. A
number of important positions are still open
on the planning committee. To volunteer or
