Kids get a day for play

about it.
Rodriguez and his One Day At A
Time (ODAT) youth diversion organization
are hosting the fi rst Dia de los
Niños (Day of the Children), a traditional
Mexican event that celebrates
children by giving them things to do.

noon to 5 p.m. on the Liberty Alternative

Buddy Poppies blossom
Brentwood VFW Post 10789
will be distributing Buddy Poppies
on Friday and Saturday, May 9 and
10 outside local Brentwood grocery
stores. Contributions for the poppies
will be used to support the cause of
veterans’ welfare, as well as benefi t
the dependents and orphans of veterans.
The fl owers are assembled by
disabled, needy and aging veterans
in VA hospitals and state veterans’
homes across the country.
Informal flora on sale
Delta Informal Gardeners’ 20th annual plant sale will be in full bloom on
Saturday, May 10 at Shelly’s Greenhouse in Brentwood. Featuring a variety of specialty
garden items and succulents as well as 1- to 5-gallon plants, annuals and perennials,
gardeners are invited to shop the event from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Bring
a cart, a wagon and a friend and come out to enjoy the day. Proceeds from the
event will benefi t beautifi cation projects in the community. Shelly’s Greenhouse is
located at Chestnut Street and Eden Plains Road in Brentwood. For more information,
