OBITUARY
Wesley V. Fitzgerald
Wesley V. Fitzgerald was born in
Vallejo on March 30, 1925. He was the
second of three sons of Aurora Lola and
Vernet Fitzgerald.
Wesley and his brothers grew up in
San Francisco. He graduated from Mission
High School and enlisted in the
Army at the age of 17. War had broken
out and he was sent overseas, where he
landed on Utah Beach, Normandy in
July of 1944 along with members of the
526th Company B 12 Army Group Eagle
Tac Security under Gen. Omar Bradley.
They fought their way across Europe
in the Battle of the Bulge under the command
of generals Patton and Bradley.
Wesley later received one of nation’s highest
awards, the Bronze Star, for each of
the four campaigns he participated in. On
Oct. 2, 2005, 25 of the surviving members
of this unit were congratulated by Vice
President Dick Cheney in Washington,
D.C. and a memorial was unveiled to
those members of the 526th.
After the war, Wesley returned home
to San Francisco. On Sept. 15, 1945 he
married Wilma. Two years later, their
only child, a son, Loren V. Fitzgerald,
was born. Over the years Wesley worked
hard to provide for his family as a fulltime
member of the National Guard and
PG&E, from which he retired after 27
years of service.
In 1972, Wesley joined the Masonic
Blue Lodge Crocker #454 in Daly City.
In 1974 he received his 32nd degree in the
Scottish Rite and also joined the Shriners.
He enjoyed working with the lodge during
his time as Master in 1977. He was proud
to raise his only son to the degree of Master
Mason. As past Master of the Lodge,
Wesley was asked to continue on in the
lodge, and went on to become Venerable
Master-Lodge of Perfection of the Scottish
Rite, Knight Commander Court of
Honor and Commander Council of Kodosh.
In 1997, he was awarded the Scottish
Rite’s highest honor, the 33rd degree.
In 2002, Wesley and Wilma Fitzgerald
moved to Brentwood, where they
continued to live until he passed away on
April 22. A memorial service was held on
Saturday, May 3 at the Brentwood Funeral
Home.
