‘50s Bash on tap
by Ray Carter
Correspondent
One of Easy County’s most memorable
annual events is revving its engines
and about to burn rubber. Bethel Island’s
Chamber of Commerce and virtually
every Island business one can think of is
gearing up to entertain the community at
the 21st Annual ’50s Bash Friday through
Sunday, July 18-20.
Chamber president Rich Marshall has
invited everyone who might be suffering
from CornFest withdrawal symptoms to
come out to Bethel Island where ’50s Bash
admission is absolutely free and the Island
is alive with music, fun, drinks, food of all
kinds, catfi sh races, car, boat, motorcycle
and golf cart shows, vendors and more.
Golf carts lead
the way in the
opening procession
at last year’s
Bethel Island ’50s
Bash, with plenty
of muscle coming
up behind. The
21st edition of
the popular event
takes place this
weekend.
Marshall was especially impressed
with last year’s Mexican dressage group.
“I call them dancing horses,” Marshall
said. “It’s amazing what they taught
those horses to do, and we’re bringing
them back again this year.”
The fun begins this Friday, when
bands crank the amps in the parking lot
outside GR Marshall’s Island Bistro.
Friday evening will also feature a sockhop,
plus hula hoop, twist and jitterbug
contests.
“The Bash is a blast from the past,”
said Geri Marshall, “and everyone’s family
is invited to relive the ’50s or just see
what a lot of it was like.”
