The seven-team Delta Dawgs Baseball
Club, which recently fi nished its fi fth season,
enjoyed tremendous success this summer,
having fi elded its largest contingent of
teams to date (ranging from 10U through
14U) and hauled off prodigious amounts
of hardware playing against the best
competition available.
“Wow! Who could have ever imagined
the kind of year this club had just fi nished?”
said club president John Zamora. “We
accomplished many of our goals and look
forward to continuing to build the solid
foundation for years to come.”
Over the course of the 2008 season, the
Dawgs dragged home 21 tournament titles
in 37 attempts. The 13U Blue team earned
a whopping seven tournament titles, the
10U team earned fi ve, and the 11U team
rounded out the top-three with four titles
of its own.
The Dawgs ended their season at the
Brentwood Breeze tournament at Sunset
Park, and all six squads in the tournament
fi nished in the top four in their respective
age groups, including championship titles
for the 14U and the Blue 11U.
The championship run at the
Brentwood Breeze tournament was
especially meaningful for the 14U Dawgs,
who returned home to play in what might
prove to be their last event together as a
team, as the boys prepare for high school.
Although 14U got off to a lethargic
start in its fi nal weekend together, losing
the opening round game against the San
Leandro Outlaws, the team regrouped and
stepped up its collective game to ensure that
it would go out on top.
The team went on to win its next four
straight, including a satisfying win over the
Outlaws in the semifi nal round and a 6-
3 win over San Francisco Blue in the title
game, to end its championship run.
Many of the 14U Dawgs will be moving
on to the next level, taking the fi eld for local
high schools next spring. Some will remain
teammates and others will fi nd themselves
warming up on opposite sidelines for the
fi rst time, but they’ll all be able to look back
fondly on their time playing together as
Delta Dawgs.
