They say that every dog has its day, which may or may not be true
for other cities, but it’s become an annual fact in Antioch.
Waldie Plaza was fi lled Saturday night with canines ranging from
micro-mini Chihuahuas that fi t in the palm of your hand to gigantic
Great Danes that look like they could eat your hand for an appetizer.
Nearly 150 dogs competed in the Delta Dawg Show, the main attraction
of the second annual Rivertown Dog Day of Summer event
held in Downtown Antioch. As part of the 2econd Saturday series of
events hosted by merchants in the Rivertown Business District, this
year’s attendance rose from about 85 dogs and 400 people last year to
approximately 150 dogs and 600 people this year.
“We want to bring people downtown and see what a jewel we
have down here,” said Brian Nunnally, event coordinator and economic
development analyst for the city of Antioch. “It’s a dog show
for people who are just proud of their pets, whether or not they are
American Kennel Club certifi ed.”
This year’s Dawg Show categories and winners were: Cutest Puppy
– Suzie, owned by Sylvia Rodrigues; Best Senior Dog – Brittany,
owned by Roxie Coon; Most Mysterious Mixed Breed – Shamar,
owned by Cher Trice; Best Pair of Dogs – Zena and Michael, owned
by Alan and Alice Dollar; Best Dog Costume – Bella-Rose, owned by
Melissa Loza; Most Obedient – Cody, owned by Lisa Seltmann; Best
