economy, the brothers also work hard to keep
their overhead low.
“We just keep everything in one box and
sometimes the papers and the money and
stuff all gets stuck,” said Justin. “We use the
money to buy more supplies. And then I had
to pay Rachel and Devyn and Evan because
they helped me. There’s not too much extra
(money), but it’s fun.”
So where does all this artistic fun, and talent,
come from? Apparently not the parents.
“No offense, but my mom and dad aren’t very
artistic,” said Jared. “But my grandpa is. He’s
a real artist. I think we get it from him.”
The boy’s mom, Michelle, thinks so too.
“Yes, my dad is the artist; defi nitely not me,”
she laughed. “I guess maybe it skips a generation.
But we’re just so thrilled that they’re enjoying
it.”

Today, the boys are content to craft their
characters and enjoy their pastime. But what
if the opportunity should arise in the future to
turn their hobbies into a career? “I would like
to get into this as a real business,” said Jared,
who is on the school yearbook committee. “I
would like to do something like DC Comics. I
can see myself doing that.”
And Justin? “Maybe. I might like to do
that if I don’t become a cook,” he said. “I help
my mom a lot in the kitchen, and I can do
things like pizza, pancakes; the simple stuff.
So I might do that, too.”
For now, Michelle is just pleased that her
boys have found something they both enjoy.
“They have big dreams and we think that’s
wonderful,” she said. “It’s a nice outlet for
them, and is sure better than sitting in front
of the TV or computer. We’re just here to encourage
them.”

Trevor’s Weekly Mortgage Matters
By Trevor Frey
Without any hesitation, if we were to meet
on the street and the question was posed, “How
eff ective do you think the recently passed “bailout
bill”, or in more politically correct terms, Th e
Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, is
going to be on our community as a whole?”, I would
have to honestly answer by simply stating…the jury
is still out. While it’s true that an additional $150
billion was added to the fi nally agreed upon 451
page bill, H.R. 1424, as well as adjusted tax benefi ts
for green-minded consumers, the middle-class,
the elderly and our college students just to name
a few, there is a huge wild card that still remains a
mystery. Th e major issue that no one knows for sure
is what kind of hold, or grasp if you will, does the
credit market have on our real economy? And until,
mostly thanks to time, this question is answered,
all side conversations can only be fi lled with theory
and opinion.
All said, I’ve had it up to you know where with
spin-off s and speculations thanks to the crisis in
which our country fi nds itself. I can’t turn on the radio
without hearing promotional ads for companies
off ering “stimulus” incentives or having “stimulus”
sales, not to mention every news channel has what
seems to be non-stop stimulus coverage. It’s to the
point where I had no choice but to agree with the
jocular attempt at humor that recently crossed my

state, it read FedEx is expected to join its competitor,
UPS, and become: FedUP! Of course that’s not true,
but hopefully it made you laugh if even for a second.
Always in life, but even more so during tough
times, the two most important things are family and
a sense of humor. Why not take this fi rst month of
fall and enjoy all that your community has to off er
while waiting on the United States fi nancial jury to
come to order? October boasts many local family
friendly activities that don’t cost much, if anything
at all: this weekend Th e 7th Annual Brentwood
Art and Wine Festival is being held in Historic
Downtown Brentwood City Park, as well as Th e 2nd
Annual Rivertown Pumpkin Day at the Nick Rodriguez
Community Center in downtown Antioch,
and both off er free admission!
We are all aware that times are tight, and trust
me when I say that everyone is looking for the light
at the end of the tunnel. However, nothing in terms
of concrete answers, when referencing our economy,
will be the truth until more time is allowed to pass
and we can begin to see this newly approved bill in
action. I welcome all questions and concerns and
promise to keep you up to speed but in the meantime
please do not fall victim to “stimulus overload”
and lose sight of what’s important most. tfrey@
