Cancer research gets
Green light at Heritage
Supporters of research into leukemia
and lymphoma, and those
looking for something fun and exciting
to do, are invited to Heritage High
School’s fi rst annual Benefi t on the
Green fundraiser tonight from 5 to 7
p.m. on the Heritage campus green.
The school will be teaming up
with the Leukemia and Lymphoma
Society to hold the event in an effort
to raise money for the research
On Sunday, May 4, members of
the Orchard Church in Brentwood will
go out into the community to meet
the needs of area residents as part of
a church-wide program called Faith in
Action.
“We have focused our attention for
the past month on Jesus’ model of ministry,”
said Pastor John McAuley. “Jesus
displayed his love for people by helping
people in need and we are doing this to
show people God’s love.”
Volunteers will be going out into
of both diseases. The benefit will include
carnival-like attractions such
as a bounce house, a dunk tank, and
a pie throw; live music by local bands
We’re Not Friends Anymore, Dissimulated,
Anchor’s Up and Tetramgrammaton;
and games for attendees
of all ages.
Admission is $5 and all proceeds
will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma
Society.
Church volunteers to put
their faith into action
the community during the church’s regular
meeting time of 10 a.m. and will
continue until 2 p.m.
Projects the group will be working
on include making repairs and working
on construction at Shepherd’s Gate
(battered women’s shelter); hosting a
free car wash at Burger King in Oakley;
cleaning up Marsh Creek; painting
a running track and tending the garden
at Pioneer Elementary School; and assisting
in landscape maintenance at
Heritage High School.
