Letters from page 20A
e-mail that Steve Goetz, a staff member
from the county’s Department of Conservation
and Development, prepared at
the request of Supervisor Piepho for the
American Avenue Task Force meetings.
After reading this e-mail message, I
found that there were additional questions
that needed to be answered by
someone within the City Council, as it
made a number of references to the city
of Brentwood and what they would need
to do.
I elected to send an e-mail with a
copy of the supervisor’s response to
Councilmen Brandon Richey, as I felt he
was equally concerned about the American
Avenue traffi c nightmare and that he
would take the time to answer the questions
I had.
Well, apparently I was wrong. I sent
Councilmen Richey my fi rst email on
June 10 and a second e-mail on June 17
asking why he had failed to respond to
my original request. I sent a third e-mail
on June 26, once again asking why he had
elected not to help me by answering the
questions I had asked of him.
It is very clear that Councilmen
Richey has no desire to get involved with
a concerned resident of the city of Brentwood
as it relates to the American Avenue
city and school district screw-up. I have
found the lack of response from Councilmen
Richey to my concerns totally unacceptable
and extremely unprofessional on
his behalf.

I supported councilmen Richey
when he was running for offi ce, but had I
known that this was the way he was going
to conduct himself, I certainly would not
have voted for him, and I can assure you
that I will not be voting for him when reelection
time comes around.
The traffi c nightmare on American
Avenue should be one of the top priorities
– if not the top – of the Brentwood City
Council to get corrected long term. The
short-term fi xes that have and continue to
take place have done nothing to correct
the real problem, and until someone gets
seriously hurt, it doesn’t appear that anything
is going to be done long term.
Councilmen Richey’s lack of
response has sent me a very clear message:
he apparently feels if you ignore
the problem, people will eventually stop
talking about it and it will go away on its
own. Well, guess what, councilmen: “That
is not going to happen!”
