Fundraiser to rock out
Rock Band junkies and Wii warriors
will have a chance to show off
their skills while raising money for a
good cause during the upcoming Battle
of the Bands at Best Buy in Brentwood
on Aug. 23 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Proceeds from the event will benefi t
the Liberty Union High School District
Educational Foundation, an organization
that provides grants for teachers,
and scholarships for students at all fi ve
of the district’s high schools.
“This is a really cool thing that Best
Buy does for the community,” said Educational
Foundation President Amy
Soares. “Kids can come in and play
Guitar Hero or the Wii and just have a
good time. Everyone is welcome.”
Admission to the fundraiser is $10,
and rock groups of two to three participants
are welcome. The competition will

The city of Oakley is currently updating
the Housing Element of its General
Plan for the period 2006-14. An
important part of the Housing Element
Update is the Community Workshop
scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 20 at
6:30 p.m. at the Oakley Apartments, 530
Carol Lane, in the meeting room.
A Housing Element establishes city
policies and programs regarding maintenance
of existing market-rate housing
and affordable-housing stock, creation
of new housing, and providing resources
to help residents meet their housing
needs.
The workshop invites input from
Oakley residents on current and future
housing needs, as well as what challenges
and opportunities exist. For more information
