at LMC
Nobel Peace Laureate Rigoberta
Menchú will be presenting the lecture
“World Peace: Your Responsibility” at
the Los Medanos College (LMC) gymnasium
on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.
The college is located at 2700 E. Leland
Road in Pittsburg. Admission to the lecture
is free.
Rigoberta Menchú was awarded the
Nobel Peace Prize in 1992, the youngest
person to ever receive the Nobel. Her
achievements in pursuing peace and justice
for indigenous and poor people are
all the more remarkable in light of the
extremes of poverty and violence that
she suffered growing up. By the time
she was 21, both of her parents and a
brother had been tortured and killed,
and another brother had died of malnutrition.
This is Menchú’s second appearance
at LMC. The fi rst time, in 2005,
attracted a capacity crowd. For more information,

Rent-A-Carolers ready
For the 20th straight Christmas season, Liberty High School’s Choral
Department will offer Rent-A-Carol to members of the community
wishing to hear some holiday cheer. Rent-A-Carol’s Victorian-costumed
singers can be reserved for holiday celebrations starting Dec. 1
and ending Dec. 23. The suggested donation is $100 for about 25 minutes
of traditional Christmas carols. For more information and to reserve
