Top amateurs hit
the Lone Tree links

Nearly 65 top amateur golfers from
across Northern California came to
Lone Tree Golf Course last Saturday
and Sunday for the 2008 Elmer
Clites Antioch City Amateur Golf
Championship.
Despite hitting his fi rst tee shot out
of bounds on day one of the tournament,
Eric Leeworthy of Stockton went on to
win the 42-player Championship Flight,
which featured a $3,355 total purse.
Leeworthy shot a 71 in the opening
round and a 68 in round two to claim
the $550 fi rst-place prize.
Locals Bob Olds and Mark Miller
found themselves in contention in the
Senior Championship Flight for a time,
but it was Herb Jensen who eventually
took home the $375 top prize with
scores of 69 and 71.
“Some top-fl ight golf was played
out there last weekend. It was exciting
to watch,” said Lone Tree Golf Course
head professional Ron Parish. “These
guys are some of the best amateurs in
the state.”
