On a warm and sunny day, 273
special-education students competed in
track and fi eld events as Liberty High
School hosted the 2008 Contra Costa
County Special Olympics last Friday.
Over 30 classes from 12 county schools
gathered for the meet.
Participating schools included
Heritage, Freedom and Liberty high
schools from the Liberty Union High
School District; Krey Elementary and
Bristow Middle School from the Brentwood
Union School District; O’Hara
Park Middle School from the Oakley
Union School District; Kimball, Sut-

Park Middle School and Deer Valley
High School from the Antioch Unifi
ed School District; and Pittsburg
High School from the Pittsburg Unifi ed
School District.
The crowd cheered as students displayed
their schools’ banners as they
paraded around the track during opening
ceremonies. Many volunteers helped
guide and prepare students for their
events, including 20 student interns
from the Liberty High School Teaching
and Learning Career Academy.
