Art Society expands palette
The Brentwood Art Society recently
added to its ranks Mary Black, director
of curriculum of the Brentwood Unifi ed
School District (BUSD). Black was appointed
secretary of the society, replacing
Ron Beatty. Beatty, in turn, was appointed
the society’s art ambassador.
Black, a four-year member of the
society, has been instrumental in developing
the BUSD’s art docent program.
She has actively supported the art society’s
fundraisers, which has enabled it to
contribute over $40,000 to art programs
in Brentwood schools. “She brings a
wealth of administrative and organizational
skills to the society,” said President
Jan Melloni, “and we are very glad
to have her in a leadership position.”
Beatty was one of the founders
of the art society and wrote its articles
of incorporation and bylaws. He also
served on the Brentwood Arts Commission
for over six years and was commission
chairman in 2003. Long active in
the arts in Brentwood, Beatty was the

As art ambassador, Beatty will be
the art society’s offi cial messenger, providing
good will, interfacing with the city
and other civic, nonprofi t, public service
organizations and institutions, explaining
the goals and purpose of the society
and soliciting involvement and support
for bringing art to Brentwood.
