Letters from page 16A
member? He’s from a union household.
Pro law enforcement? He was a reserve police
offi cer with the Antioch Police Department.
Pro military? He was in the Marine
Corps Reserve. The 5th District is majority
Democrat? No problem – he’ll change
his party registration from Republican to
Democrat even for a non-partisan offi ce.
Are you the biggest developer in the
county? He’ll promise you whatever you
want in exchange for fi nancial backing, as
well as your permission to place his signs
on your property throughout the district.
Unfortunately, Mr. Nunn has a mindbending
sense of entitlement and wears it
on his sleeve. He practically whined at the
UCBN candidates’ forum that he has been
running for fi ve years! Who cares! His reasoning
for the party switch was laughable;
he claimed that his congregation pressured
him to do it. When pressed on the subject
only minutes later, he backtracked and
denied that he was pressured. He effectively
threw his congregation under the bus.
His ambitions manifest themselves in
some disturbing ways. While I salute his
service in the Marine Corps Reserve, being
activated and sent to Yuma, Ariz. is not the
same as being sent to Kuwait. Serving during
Desert Storm is not the same as serving
in Desert Storm. As someone who served
in the active duty military, I take personal
offense to that.
Also, being a reserve police offi cer is
not the same as a full-time police offi cer. I’ve
talked to scores of Antioch police and they
all agree. Mr. Nunn obviously wants to portray
himself as something he wasn’t based
on the police shield featured prominently
on his mailer. The rank and fi le of Antioch
Police Department are not impressed, and
as a matter of fact, are insulted.
Finally, Mr. Nunn was apparently
telling people at the Antioch Chamber of
Commerce and other places that prominent
local rancher Jack Roddy was endorsing
him in this election cycle, when in fact
he wasn’t. Needless to say, Mr. Roddy was
not very happy when he was informed. For
the record, the Roddys hosted the kickoff
event for Gary Agopian at their ranch in
April.
And when it comes to endorsements,
we all know Mr. Nunn is being endorsed
by Seeno (again, look at his sign placement),
but when asked directly about his
backing, he skirted the issue and refused
to admit it. District 5 deserves better than
Federal Glover – but Erik Nunn is not that
person.
