OBITUARIES
Jane Marie Nelson
Jane Marie Nelson, a resident of Martinez,
passed away peacefully at home in Antioch on April
13, 2008, after a long battle with cancer. She was born
in Philipsburg, Mont. on Jan. 4, 1939. She is survived
by her sons, Gregory A. Turk and Brian J. Turk; two
daughters-in-law, Cynthia L. Turk and Tracy A. Turk;
and four grandchildren, Gerald and Trisha Carr, and
David and Samantha Turk. We love you and will miss
you, Mom.
Memorial services will be held at the Martinez
Moose Lodge, 414 Escobar St. in Martinez, on Saturday,
May 3. Funeral services were provided by Bay
Area Cremation and Funeral Services of Brentwood
(925-516-2710).
James W. Poe
James W. Poe lost his courageous battle to cancer
on April 17, 2008.
James was born in Garrettsville, Ohio in 1920.

Ennor would like to announce
the marriage of
their only daughter, Haley
Michele Urbanus, to
Marine Cpl. Joseph Gregory
Smethurst. Haley attended
Liberty High School and
graduated from City College
San Francisco. Joseph graduated
from Westmoor High
School in Daly City and is
preparing for his third tour
of duty in Iraq. The couple
were married in a civil
ceremony at San Francisco
City Hall on April 14, 2008,
attended by immediate
family, then celebrated the
event with a luncheon. The
couple will be living on the
Marine Base at 29 Palms
while Joseph trains and receives
orders to deploy with
his unit sometime within the
next six months. The couple
will enjoy a short honeymoon
at Disneyland.

Prentice-Hall Publishing as sales manager in the
college division for 38 years. He and his wife, Portia,
retired to the Bay Area.
James enjoyed frequent family vacations, was
an avid golfer and a loyal fan of the Ohio State
Buckeyes. He also participated in football and
basketball throughout his school years at Rittman

be remembered by family and friends for his
great sense of humor and his storytelling abilities.
He is preceded in death by two sisters, Madge
Yocheim of Ashland, Ohio and Louise Tighe of
Toledo, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of 60
years, Portia Elaine; daughter, Kathy Barriskill of
Brentwood; son, Kevan Poe of Liberty Township,
Ohio; two granddaughters, Emily Heaton and Trisha
Crockett; and three great-grandchildren. He is
also survived by two sisters, Jane Gift of Louisville,
Ky. and Peggy Bates of Wadsworth, Ohio.
Memorial services are pending. His interment
is in Oakmont Memorial Park Cemetery in Lafayette.
