Hulk, a 50-pound African desert
tortoise, has been missing from his
Oakley home since June 20, and family
members are asking for the public’s
help in getting him back.
How the 11-year-old tortoise disappeared
from his fenced yard remains
unclear, said owner Regina Laniohan,
although they suspect Hulk was initially
stolen and then let go. Spotted recently
in a neighborhood in southeast
Oakley, the Laniohan family is offering
a reward for information leading to the
retrieval of their much-loved pet.
“We are just frantic and are desperate
to fi nd him,” said Laniohan.
“He has a special diet and most people
would not know how to care for him.
He’s a member of our family, and we
love him so much.”
The Laniohans’ have contacted
the Oakley Police Department, local
pet stores and are posting signs and
fl yers in and around nearby neighborhoods.
Although Hulk is an animal ac-
customed to the heat of the desert, he’s
also a pampered, hand-fed pet who
subsists largely on organic fruits and
vegetables.
“His body should be able to handle
the heat, and he knows how to graze on
food he fi nds, but I worry about him
getting on the railroad tracks or getting
lost in the fi elds. He’s such an affectionate,
sweet animal. He’s priceless
to us.”
Anyone with information on Hulk
should contact the Laniohans at 925-
382-7641.
