Isn’t it grand!
Antioch native Aaron Miles hit the second grand slam of his Major
League career on Sunday night, and did it in spectacular
fashion. The 5-foot 8-inch, 175-pound second baseman came to
the plate with the bags loaded in the bottom of the ninth, his St. Louis
Cardinals knotted 5-5 with the San Diego Padres, and crushed a Bryan
Corey offering over the right fi eld wall to give the Cards a 9-5 walkoff
win. The homer was Mile’s 15th in his Major League career and his
seventh in three years with the Cardinals. It was also the fi rst walk-off
homer he’s hit at any level of baseball. “That’s a feeling I wasn’t sure
I was going to get to experience, that walk-off homer,” Miles told reporters
after the game. “But it happened to me. I’d never done it before,
not in the Minor Leagues or anywhere, so it’s a great feeling.”
