Community cooks up caring event
by Rick Lemyre
Staff Writer
If you had a problem fi nding parking on Susie Court
in Oakley a couple of weekends ago, well, that’s just the
way the cookie crumbles. Or, in this case, how it comes
together.
Nicole and Rob Sparacino, with assistance from Lisa
Coker, were responsible for the crowd, having invited the
community to participate in a July 12 bake sale to raise
money for the children of Erik and Tanya Nunn, and
Craig and Michele Wilson. The four, residents of the
same Oakley neighborhood, were killed in a June 28 plane
crash, leaving behind seven children.
“People were there before the bake sale and even after
the scheduled end time,” Nicole Sparacino said by e-mail.
“I have no idea how many hundreds of people were able
to participate. It was overwhelming.”
Friends, family, neighbors and complete strangers
combined efforts to raise $6,000 at the event, which will
be split between the trust funds set up for the two families.
The Nunn and Wilson children, along with the grandparents
who are now caring for them, were also on hand.
“It’s obvious that these two families have touched the
hearts of so many people in this community,” said Sparacino.
“It’s powerful to see what people can achieve when
they work as a team. We’d love to make this an annual
tradition in honor of the families; they will never be forgotten.”
Donations may be made to the funds – the Nunn
Children Trust Fund, account number 105156251, and the
Wilson Children Trust Fund, account number 105156269
– at any Bank of the West branch. The phone number for
the Oakley branch is 925-625-2211.
Michael Ditmars, M.D.
General Surgeon
“I chose Sutter Delta Medical Center because I was
looking for a pleasant community to raise my family in while
practicing medicine, but this is no ‘community hospital.’ The
quality of equipment, care, and services here are equal to
anything you’d expect in a major metropolitan area.”
General Surgeon Michael Ditmars, M.D. specializes
in the use of advanced technology and minimally invasive
procedures designed to reduce scarring, decrease
recovery time, and lower the risks associated with surgery.
He believes that while every good surgeon has to be great
in the operating room, it is a surgeon’s relationship with his
patients that makes him excellent.
