Festival to feature Wall of Art
The CornFest banners came
down this week and were replaced
by the newly designed banners for
the 2008 Brentwood Art, Wine &
Jazz Festival, the city’s second civic
celebration, scheduled for Saturday
and Sunday, Oct. 11 and 12.
The event will again feature
the popular Wall of Art, on which
students in the community will exhibit
their hand-drawn art. Sections of
chain link fence, donated by Delta
Fence, will be strategically placed
throughout the park displaying the
names of each of the schools in the
Brentwood community. Special
sections will also display art from
local Christian schools, home schools
and sister cities. A storyline of the
process of learning art from K-12
will accompany the art, as well as
programs offered with the city of
Brentwood.
Students are required to draw
their art on an 8½x11 piece of paper
(the content is subject to restrictions)
and take their art to Sand Creek Pools,
corner of Walnut Boulevard and Oak
Street in downtown Brentwood, for
lamination. Students can pick up
their art in City Park to hang in the
appropriate section before the festival
opens. Each will receive a participation
ribbon, a place in the group photo
for the newspaper, and recognition
during opening ceremonies. All art
can be reclaimed at 6 p.m. on Sunday
after the festival closes.
Students are also invited to create
a drawing to submit for a free coloring
book to be given away in the Little
Clusters Children’s Area, sponsored
by Smile Business Products, Inc. All
art is to be hand drawn on an 8½x11
piece of white paper and suitable to
color. (Artists may choose to enhance
the art with bold lines for coloring
purposes.) Each contestant will be
given a participation ribbon, and
winners’ fi rst names and ages will be
printed with their art when published.
Prizes will be awarded as stated on the
application. Deadline for both entries
is Sept. 30.
Proceeds from the event will
benefi t art and cultural art programs
in the Brentwood community.
Residents and businesses are
encouraged to join the Brentwood
Art Society in the running of this
year’s festival and other programs.
