Brentwood welcomed home its latest
returnee from Iraq this week with a thunderous,
grin-inducing, hug-fi lled reception
that many are hoping to repeat.
When Airman 1st Class Joshua Jorgenson
stepped off a plane at the Oakland
Airport Tuesday, he was met, as he expected,
by his brother Zach, sister Krystal
and parents Diane and Lance. What he
wasn’t ready for was a line of more than a
dozen fl ag-waving members of the Patriot
Guard Riders (PGR) motorcycle group
there to greet him as well.
“When I saw them, I said, ‘This
can’t be for me,’” Jorgensen said. “I was
surprised, speechless. I didn’t expect it at
all.”
A crew chief with the Air Force’s 1st
Special Operations Maintenance Squadron,
Jorgensen had been stationed in Bahgdad
since May. His arrival at the airport
was followed by the trek home, the family’s
SUV escorted the entire way by 16
roaring motorcycles, Star Spangled Banners
snapping in the wind.
“When I looked in the rear-view mirror,
all I could see was bikes,” grinned
Jorgensen. “The sound in the (Caldecott)
Tunnel was awesome.”
When it arrived in Brentwood, the
procession was met by some two dozen
friends, family, neighbors and members
of the Brentwood post of the American
Legion. A pair of engines from the East
Contra Costa Fire Protection District
were there, too, as was Mayor Bob Taylor
and his wife, Pam.
“I’m glad you’re a part of our community,”
Taylor told Jorgensen. “This
community really does love our troops.”
Diane Jorgensen said she had wanted
to get the word out that Josh was coming
home only to his friends and invite them to

Oakley already has a
business license tax.
But the City wants more.
Now is not the time to be raising taxes, when businesses
are struggling to stay open and Oakley is trying to attract
new business to town.
If the City wants more money to pay for city services, they need
to bring in more retail businesses, at which we can shop, here in
Oakley. Plus, who do you think will pay for the increased cost of
the tax? That’s right. All of us.
