Town of Bethel Island
Bethel Island is the most populated
island in the 1,200-mile Delta
waterway. Approximately 2,500
people call the waterfront community home.
The Delta Coves development, an upscale
waterfront project on 310 acres, is planned
for 590 houses with deep-water access to the
Delta. The island draws big crowds for the
’50s Bash, Holiday Lighted Boat Parade,
Opening Day on the Delta Boat Parade,
an International Society of Chili Cook-off,
and the Fishing Derby, now more than 50
years in the running. The island also boasts
a championship 18-hole golf course and the
San Joaquin Yacht Club.
Established in the mid-1990s, the
Bethel Island Municipal Advisory Council
(BIMAC) gives the island’s approximately
2,500 residents a stronger voice in community
affairs. The island’s Neighborhood
Watch groups hold meetings with
BIMAC. The Bethel Island Municipal
Improvement District (BIMID) provides
levee maintenance and repair for the island,
and the Ironhouse Sanitary District
(ISD) provides the island’s sewer services.
