East County libraries provide far more than books on shelves and computers on desks. They’ve become a dynamic center
for special events and educational opportunities for library goers of all ages. Kids can participate in story and craft sessions,
learn about fire safety and be entertained by puppet shows; teens can enter the “Catch the Reading Bug” event
and win prizes; and adults can take advantage of the county-sponsored Reading Festival’s talks by big-time authors. This year
also marks the advent of Library-a-Go-Go, which allows BART riders at Pittsburg/Bay Point and residents in the Discovery
Bay area to pursue their reading adventures by swiping their library cards at an ATM-style machine loaded with literary gems.
