Schools
As more families move to East County, the need for more schools continues to increase. Knightsen School District recently
opened a second elementary school, Old River, in 2008, to reduce class sizes from an average of 32 students per class to
24. Oakley Union Elementary School District will also be adding a new school – the eighth in the district – Almond
Grove, scheduled to open in 2009. There are currently no plans for additional elementary schools in the Brentwood or Byron
districts. The Antioch Unified School District operates 14 elementary schools.
